Salt water aquarium question?

I’m planning on setting up a small salt water aquarium, its a 10 gallon tank, i only plan on having a few saltwater plants and 1 small fish in there, ik i need something to convert the water to saltwater but i dont know what i need? other than that and a filter what do i need?

Here you go… Use Instant Ocean Reef Crystals. I service aquariums and find this salt mix good to be a nice mix between good cost and good salt. Get a good light, look for power compacts, T5 fixtures, or LEDs. LEDs being the best, T5’s being second, and PCs being the worse. Any other lighting would not work well on a tank like this. A good filter for a small saltwater tank would be a Hagen Aquaclear. Get the Aquaclear 70. It is big enough that it will work best and provide enough flow in the tank. Add live sand, a few pieces of live rock, and buy some plants, maybe a small coral, and through in a fish. If you have a tight fitting lid, I like flame fish or fire goby they are called. A clown goby works, and small shrimp gobies, a six line wrasse, a silver or spine cardinalfish, a neon goby, an ocellaris clown. These are all good candidates for a 10g tank.

Do water changes often on 10 gallon tank, like 3 – 4 gallons every week if you can. Do not need skimmer if this is done, small tank makes it hard to get a skimmer on there.

Use a turkey baster to lift any detritus up and clean out rocks and crevices. Clean filter at least once a month, clean impeller and change carbon and sponge, and rinse off the bio-media.

If you follow this you, should have an ice tank.

Can i run a salt water aquarium (fish only)with only a Canister filter.?

Meaning no need for Live rock,Sump, Bio balls, Protein Skimmer, UV sterlizer, or Chaetomorpha.
Just a Salt water Aquarium with a Cansiter filter and some decorations.

—I would think it could be done successfully,,, you dont mention SAND or any substrate, However ,I would recommend using ceramic media of some fashion in one of the compartments of the canister,,there needs to be some place for nitrifying bacteria to colonize which will help the tank cycle,,,and keep it cycled,,,
—the ceramics can be rinsed off, in old aquarium water, when doing the canister maintenance so that you have minimal impact on the tank cycle when water changes and maintenance are done,,,then replaced into the canister without sacrificing all the needed bacteria every time you work on it
