Salt Water Aquarium Tips and Tutorials

can you have to much light on a reef tank?

i have a 36in 29 gallon reef tank that i want to update the light on. im looking at a 442 watt and a 630 watt. i have corals and im looking at getting more. im afraid that the 630 watt will cook my corals alive. please help.

To be safe, I’d go with 442 watt. You don’t want to risk the water heating too much. It’s better to have not enough light than too much. If you’re still unsure, try looking online for a wattage that’s somewhere in between the two.

You want to know something you can do that is cool! you can get white coral and use a black light to see it at night. But i would say go down in wattage a bit (like 350) just to be on the safe side of things!;)
