Salt Water Aquarium Tips and Tutorials

Do you need to do water changes in a reef tank?

If a salt water reef tank has a sump and protein skimmer, would you need to make water changes???

There are different opinions about this though I personally feel with reef tanks you need to carefully monitor the chemicals/minerals in the water, weekly fill the tank with ro water to make up for evaporation and I change 10% of the water weekly and do a much larger water change on occasion. A lot of people have a lot of different opinions on this though this is what works best for me.

what should i use for a micro reef tank 5 or 10 gal. tank?

Yes, You would have to make water changes in your tank to help remove waste that is not picked up in your skimmer as well as replacing the trace elements that have been used up by your critters. HTH>
