Would it be benifical to use the complete substrate AND the initial sticks?? Or would that just be over kill?? or bad even? How nessesary is it to have a substrate heater?

You shouldn’t ever have to change all the water, and if you have to remove the plants, be very careful with their roots. Otherwise, it is better not to remove the plants if possible. You should never change more than 50% of your water at any time unless of some catastrophe.
