To the fishperts and aquarium enthusiasts: What is your opinion of my tank set-up?
Ok, I started out five years ago with a ten gallon aquarium. I’ve never tested the water, and have never lost a fish to disease, only to normal or longer than normal longevity. My tank produces a light brown and the typical green algea. I’ve had 2 corydatas, 4.5 yrs old. 1 chinese loach 3yrs old. 4 neon tetras 2.75 yrs old and 6mnths ago 5 zebra danios. A pair of lyre tail mollies the female just gave birth. They breed prolifically, all of them. Whenever I’ve gone to the local suppliers to get some of the supplies for the fish. And they ask what I’m doing, I’ll tell them this and get some strange to incredulous looks, but little input. I can take critcism constuctively and if I can’t I’ll let it roll off with a grain of salt. I would like some honest input and am willing to accept inquiries. The water I use is from a Artesian well. I have drank it straight out of the ground cold fresh and clean. How can I become an authorized fish breeder. I’m running out of freinds, to give them away.
Whoa there Big Gori, I did’nt say anything about water changes, I do a 25% water change every two weeks, I thought neon tetras only live to be 3yrs old!
Mokey41, I could’nt have them planted any tighter. I really have to find out if the water quality has much to do with that? It has’nt been to bad on the maintanence!
Ruben K, I have asked the local fish stores, they won’t even take them, not even for free! Well every one I don’t know why I’m having to vote on this now, so I’ll put it out to the community. Thanks for your suggestions!
I’m amazed all of that lives in a 10 gallon without incident. You are hugely overstocked so you must be doing a lot of maintenance.
To become a breeder you need to be able to produce a lot of quality fish at a really cheap price on demand. I don’t think there are authorized dealers. Your best bet is to find a couple of mom & pop type stores that will take what you have when it is available. Most won’t pay cash but will give you credit for their store.

Ask your local petstore/s if they will sell them. Give them a couple of your home-bred fish for free. then they will decide the quality of the fish and you can ask money for them. You just have to sell them for less then their suppliers or see a friendly petshop that’s willing to lend a hand.

well first off. 5 years is NOT enough time to see normal or longer than normal longevity for ANY of those fish, unless they JUST started dying.
and depending on what you mean by chinese loach, they can live over 15 years.
you’re getting looks cause somehow you’ve managed to keep all these fish alive supposedly without checking quality or doing water changes, i imagine.
that’s INSANELY lucky!
as for the fry your LFS may take them, but don’t expect much if any money for them. mollies are commonly offered to them from people at home, and it’s not like they are expensive.
