Salt Water Aquarium Tips and Tutorials

Is it possible to make a salt water aquarium using Rock salt (Or maybe aquariums salt) + distilled water?

Could I make Salt water for salt water fish using normal rock salt from the grocery store and mixing it with distilled water? Or can I use the "aquarium salt" found in pet stores?
If not, what’s a possible way to make it?
Thanks!!!

Unfortunately no. You need to use synthetic salt as it contains elements that seawater contains, and unfortunately normal salt and aquarium salt you find in a supermarket/pet shop does not and it will just give you salty water instead of sea water. You will need to go into an aquarium that sells marine fish and ask for some synthetic salt and add in one cup per a gallon of water and dissolve it before you add it into the tank. You should test the salinity of it first so that it is between 1.020 and 1.024 using a hydrometer.
Another alternative is, that most marine stocking aquariums will sell their saltwater for about 30 cents a liter.

I'm thinking about getting a salt water aquarium, do you have any tips?

Only use aquarium salt in a saltwater aquarium. Salt from seawater contains 3 types of salt which are necessary to the survival of marine fish. They are sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and magnesium chloride.

    Nope.

While normal salt is the main ingredient in seawater it’s not the only thing in there. There are many other mineral salts that make up sea water.

All you will get is salty water, not sea water.

    it is possible, yes

but for good results you really need a commercial salt mix like instant ocean, there are other things in it besides just salt
