The kid who called you stupid in his response is a complete dick…………. Anyways, house salt is a not a competent replacement for saltwater salt. The reason is that house salts will not only make the water too salty, but it will also create negative ions and chemical imbalances in the water, that will ultimately kill your fish. House salt is mined from a salt mine, and this salt is full of harmful chemicals that can kill a fish. SALTWATER FISH ARE VERY APT TO DIE FROM CHEMICAL IMBALANCES> Saltwater salt is pretty expensive I think that it is $50 at Petsmart, but I think that you already knew that keeping a saltwater tank is very expensive to keep.

no DO NOT USE KITCHEN SALT. you can buy the salt at your local fish store . it does not cost you too much

no do not use table salt in your fish tank it will kill your fish and is much more expensive salt required for salt water fish is not expensive u can buy a bag for a 50 gallon tank for $15 dollars

Definitely not. It will kill the fish. If you don't want to spend the money on buying the salt, then why not get freshwater fish? They're just as interesting, and a little easier to look after.

As opposed to fresh water tanks, a salt water tank is a major investment. Probably around $500 to just get started and then easily up to the thousands of $$$ from there.

So if your wanting to dump a 50 cent shaker of Morton’s into a $2000 aquarium,….. Hon, do you see my reasoning? just doesn’t make good since to gamble that type of investment to save a few dollars.

never use kitchen salt. you have to go buy aquarium salt. you can get aquarium salt at any pet store that sells fish
