Salt Water Aquarium Tips and Tutorials

I might be getting a 30 gallon fish tank. Is it to small to start a salt water tank?

Im wanting to start a salt water tank. I am very skilled with fresh water and was told there is not much diffrence only the salt levels need to be watched. But the tank I could be getting is only 29 or 30 gallons, and I wanting to know is this tank to small for salt water fish. I know there is diffrent sizes of fish just like fresh water but im not sure how salt water fish act. Thanks

Not at all. I’ve used a 14 gallon BioCube to setup a small, three fish (and whatever invertebrates hatched out of the live rock I put in.

do you have to have crushed coral in a fish only salt water tank?

I think if you’re careful, that tank size wouldn’t be an issue.

not as long as you don’t put to many fish in it.

that size is good for a small reef tank with maybe one or two reef fish. not much more.

The smaller the harder to manage. If you’re going with this tank start with only a couple of fish for a month or so before you get any more.

    good luck.

Do you plan on making it a reef tank or a FOWLR tank? If it is a reef tank then you will need all the proper chemicals, ex. calcium and carbonate. Also proper lighting is need to maintain corals. Do not get into salt water tanks unless you plan on spending a lot of money. Check out these videos of nano salt water tanks.

To get an idea of the amount you need to spend, i’ll post a link for supplies for a 10 gallon, then you can see for yourself how much it will cost you and make a wise decision on whether you want to go salt water or not. I have 2 nano tanks and it costs me a good piece of change to keep them running.
