Salt Water Aquarium Tips and Tutorials

reef aquarium care/ sumps?

ive been researching care for salt water fish (im thinking about getting a 55gallon reef setup) and what kind of fish and corals should i get (im just asking for your opinions) please don’t give me it all depends on you answers, also i think i should get a sump can anyone tell me how to make a home made overflow/sump i have extra 10 gallons laying around.nothing that involves drilling or sawing if there is a way
well i still am gonna get acrylic or glass get them and get sealant but im not sure how to connect them and what other equipment to buy like pipes and stuff

If you are just starting , which fish and coral should I get are not questions you should be asking now.
Sumps are easy to make and you can make an overflow without drilling.

    A sump is really recommended.
With a 10 gallon and no construction i’d say you could only put a skimmer at max.
But i can’t really see making a overflow/sump without doing labor.

If I were you and I had a 55 gallon SW I would get a scott’s fairy wrasse I love those and a midas blenny they have great personalities. I also like the dwarf angels like the coral beauty or the flame angel. but the angels are not 100% reef safe sometimes they nip at coral.
If it is your first reef tank I would get soft coral like zoo’s or mushrooms they are easier to keep then hard coral. I also love the white pom-pom xenia they are pretty and grow quickly.
I would also get some skunk cleaner shrimp because they are so entertaining they will climb on your hand while you clean the tank and clean your hand. and don’t forget a to add some snails they are great for making algae easier to control and some eat fish waste and uneaten food.
I’m sorry but I really don’t know tons about a sump. There are many times I wish I had one to hide all the extra equipment to make my tank look less cluttered but I just have a hang on refugium.
